Joan Wilkerson Burnett

Joan Wilkerson Burnett, age 78, passed away peacefully, after an extended illness, on January 16, 2010 under the loving care of the staff at Panama City Nursing Center and Covenant Hospice. Joan Burnett was born in Alexandria, Louisiana. She graduated from Louise McGhee School in New Orleans, Louisiana and attended the University of Alabama and Newcomb College in New Orleans. She worked for Oschner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans and has resided in Panama City, Florida since 1982. She loved dogs, reading mysteries and spending time in nature and was a long time supporter of the Panama City Humane Society. Sharp and quick witted in her youth, with age she bloomed and had an easygoing and sweet temperament. She especially enjoyed socializing with her dear friends at Mathison Retirement home, where bingo and the breakfast club were her favorite activities. Mrs. Burnett raised three children, Robert Burnett, Stephen Burnett, and Cathy Hartman. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Holly Burnett, son-in-law Richard Hartman, and three grandchildren, Catie, Charles and Rich Hartman. She was preceded in death by her husband, LTC Charles L. Burnett USAF, parents, Robert and Dot Wilkerson, and her beloved dog, Mack. She will be remembered on Tuesday, January 19th at 1:30 PM in the Chapel at Mathison Retirement Center 3637 West Highway 390, Panama City, Florida (850) 215-4663.
