JIMMIE LEE QUICK

October 31, 1934 – October 31, 2011

Jimmie Lee Quick was born October 31, 1934 at home in Southport, FL to Marjorie Mae (Lemieux) Quick and Homer Wilson Quick. He celebrated his 77th birthday a day early with several of his children and some chocolate cake…his favorite! On October 31, 2011, "Little Daddy" died quietly in his sleep at his daughter's home in Alabama.
He began working at age 14 where he caddied at the Panama Country Club. He also worked with his grandfather in the seafood industry. He lived in Chicago for 10 years, working for Lucas Furniture Company. He drove a propane truck for Sowell Propane, then drove a semi for McKenzie Tank Lines. He thoroughly enjoyed being on the road. Though a man of small stature, he held that Big Rig steady on the road for 24 years under the CB handle "Little Big Horn." He was well recognized on America's highways by the black cowboy hat he wore and the little pair of steer horns on the hood of his rig. He had a great smile, beautiful blue eyes and a rapier sharp sense of humor. Due to his health, he retired in 1994 and kept himself busy by fixing small engines.
He and his first wife, Frances Revanell White, had five children. After they divorced, Jimmie married Claire Harper.
He is survived by two brothers, Freddie and Jakie Quick and two sisters, Mary "Sunni" Thomas and Dollie Hall. He is also survived by 5 adult children, Helen, Beverly, Mavis, Mary, Johnny and a stepdaughter, Christy Gibb. He is also survived by grandchildren, Melanie, Jeff, Ken, Alicyn, Matthew, Heather, Erin, Beau, Seydi and Harley and great-grandchildren Kaitlin, Kyleigh, Kaden, Reagan Rose, Jaime, Winter, Emily and newborn Ethan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margie and Homer; brother, Billie; his wives, Nell and Claire; and a stepson, Rusty Harper.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jimmie's name to Christ Church at 311 North Tyndall Parkway, Callaway, FL 32404. The family will have a private ceremony at a later date to release Jimmie's and Claire's ashes together.
