Obituary

The world lost a remarkable example of what it means to be true, dedicated and hard working. Retired CMSgt Jimmie E. Legg Sr. left this earth to join his devoted wife Janie on February 18, 2018, at 85 years of age.
He leaves behind four loving children, Terry Pim (Danny), Cynthia Shelton (Joel), Jimmie E. Legg Jr. (Terri), David Legg (Stacey). He loved his children without reservation, but also found joy in his 10 grandchildren, Billy, Peter, Brian, Brandi, Jennifer, Samantha, Brittany, Mason, Abbigail, and Braden. His heart was so big he had room for 13 great -grandchildren: Lillian, Andrew, Jaxon, Bryce, Logan, Nathan, Alexandra, Arabella, Eli, Ethan, Luke, Payton, and Emory.
He was born in Lumberton, Mississippi in 1933 but made Panama City his home after 26 years of service in the United State Air Force, where he served valiantly alongside many others in Vietnam. Upon retiring from the Air Force his dedication to his country continued into his civil service as U.S. Postman for nearly 20 years.
Jimmie's memory will be cherished by many, owing to his giving nature. He loved to work in his garden and was generous with the harvests he reaped. His produce was coveted by friends and family alike. In addition to his garden, Jimmie was well known as a master tinker and chief scrounge, it was often commented that he had forgotten more about how to fix anything than your average Joe could ever learn.
He loved sports. Many teams would have been better off had they listened to his coaching from the comfort of his armchair. Most notable his Florida State Seminoles. But above all, he reveled in his family. Celebrating weddings and births, cheering at graduations, soccer games, and swim meets all brought him immense joy. Any who knew him will remember his grit, his unashamed ability to tell the truth, but most of all his love.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m.in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military and masonic rites conducted at the graveside. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to Covenant Care, 107 W. 19th St., Panama City, FL 32405.
