Jean Watson Lewis passed away Friday, May 11, 2012. She was born in Georgiana, Alabama the daughter of Dr. and Mrs J.C. Watson. She moved to Panama City, Florida in 1940. She married Albert M. Lewis Jr. in 1941. They celebrated 40 years of marriage before he died in 1981. Jean is survived by 2 sons, Albert M. Lewis III (Marilyn), of Panama City, James Crawford Lewis (Wendy) of Dunwoody, Georgia, and a daughter, Carol Jean Wheeler, of Alpharetta, Georgia.
Jean has been blessed with five grandchildren: Albert M. Lewis IV, of Los Angeles, California; Michael Patrick Lewis (Gretchen) of Austin, Texas; Holly Lewis Kingsley (Nickolas) of Boston, Massachusetts; Kirk Lewis, of Baltimore, MD.; and Troy Lewis of Atlanta, a great grandson, Bailey Ryan Lewis; two nieces, Nancy Lewis Moore and Miriam Sapp Bozarth and a nephew, Herbert P. Sapp Jr., all of Panama City. She is preceded in death by her two sisters Eleanor Lewis, and Anna Louise Sapp.
Jean was a graduate of Montevallo College in Montevallo, Alabama and taught Home Economics at Bay County High School when she first moved to Panama City. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School at the church for 35 years. Jean was active in community affairs: The Bay County Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. She also was on the first Advisory Committee of Gulf Coast State College. She was the third president of the Panama City Jr. Service League, a member of the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club Auxiliary and a member of the Kidney Board.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Panama City on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clyde Ellison officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Those desiring may make memorial donations to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Jean Lewis.
