James D. Sandlin of Panama City, Florida  passed away at the age of 83.  He was born in Nashville, TN in 1939 to Bertha and Leslie Conquest.  He was later adopted by his stepfather Vollie Hearl Sandlin. Vollie was in the Air Force and the family lived in several States throughout his career including a year in Okinawa.

He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1962. He married Mary Nell Parker in 1963 and was married for 25 years.  He worked at the Mine Defense Division at Naval Coastal System of Panama City for 30 years.  Upon retiring, he enrolled at Florida State University and pursued a degree in Psychology and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2001.  He then received his Master's degree from Troy University in 2005 with a degree in Science in Counseling and Psychology and counseled at various programs and prisons in the Florida Panhandle.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved music and was always cracking jokes. He was predeceased in death by his son,  Tobe Sandlin, and is survived by his children Ryan Sandlin (Jenny) and Mynta Harbison (Matt), Grandchildren Spencer Sandlin, Tanner Sandlin, John Parker Harbison, and Jake Harbison.  His Brothers, Erv Sandlin (Linda) of Albuquerque, NM and Mike Sandlin (Patricia) of Panama City.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 1608 Baker Court in Panama City at 2:00 P.M.. The family will receive friends at the church from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. A reception will be in the Byrne Hall immediately following the service.
