JAMES MACKENZIE "JIM" MOWAT

James MacKenzie "Jim" Mowat, 82, of Lynn Haven, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2007 at his home. He was born on April 2, 1924 in Akron, Ohio. His Scottish parents came to Lynn Haven via Canada on Christmas week of 1913. He graduated from Bay High School and attended the University of Florida until he was called home to help with the family business during WWII. He ran Mowat Dairy until 1987 and hand delivered milk to many homes in his community. He was a member of the Lions Club and loved his Saturday evening card and domino games. He sang in a Barber Shop Quartet for 23 years, was a School Board Member for 24 years, was past president for the Council on Aging and served for 12 years as a volunteer for Catholic services. He was a member of Lynn Haven Presbyterian Church for over 70 years where he served as the choir director for 43 years. He was also an ordained elder, trustee and clerk of the session. Jim had uncountable friends whom he loved and cherished from the depths of his heart. He was described by his family as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Grantham Mowat. He is survived by his two sons, Tim Mowat and his wife, Wendy, David Mowat and his wife, Valerie, two grandchildren, Laeton Mowat and Lexey Mowat, sister, Betty Andrews and her husband, Sandy, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven with the Rev. Dr. Dan Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Those desiring may make a contribution to the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven, the Council on Aging, or the Covenant Hospice in memory of Jim Mowat. The family would like to thank everyone who took care of Jim. Our hospice team was amazing and you helped us send this angel from Heaven home.
