James S. Moore, Jr, 87, of Panama City, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama on March 16, 1928 to James S. Moore, Sr. and Opal E. Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Thomas Moore, sister, Sherry Buckner, and son-in-law, Richard Moran Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty W. Moore, three children; Roger Moore (Toni), Renese Moran, and Christina Gordon (John), grandchildren; Megan Stodard (Christopher), Michael Moore, Raymond Bates, Ryan Bates, Katerina Gordon, and Svetlana Gordon; and sister, Charline Struve. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 12 at 2 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Margaret S. Shepard and Rev. John Wave officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later time at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the National Parkinson Foundation in memory of James S. Moore, Jr.
Jim worked at the Panama City Navy Base from 1953 to 1994. Over his career, he served in several scientific and leadership capacities from a physicist to a Naval Warfare Operations Research Analyst, to a Senior Systems Analyst for Surface Ship Torpedo Defense. He led teams of scientific and technical personnel. His career included international assignments with NATO in Italy, and a joint US/UK study. His honors included the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award, and later the NSWC PCD Hall of Fame.
When he was not busy with work, Jim enjoyed photography and his love for photography showed through the beauty in his photographs. He enjoyed spending time with his family, travel, genealogy, computer programming and website design.
