James Manley Massey (Jim)

May 20, 1935- August 7, 2010

Jim Massey went to be with The Lord on August 7th, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on May 20, 1935 in Ashford, Alabama. He grew up in Houston County, Alabama. After graduating High School, he served in the Army for two years. He graduated from Troy State University in 1959 with a BS degree in business. He married Annette Gamble on May 30, 1959 and they were married for 51 years. He was hired by Good Year Tire Company where he worked for five years until he opened his own business in 1965 in Panama City, Florida, Auto Save Tire Store. While living in Panama City, he was an active member of Northside Baptist Church, where he loved to serve The Lord and fellowship with the Northside Family. He served as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher for 40 years and as a trustee for 35 years. Having a benevolent heart, he was always giving to those in need. Whether it was time, money, service or love, he was always reaching out to his church family and community. He enjoyed playing golf for many years with his friends at the Panama Country Club. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Massey, and Sister Christine.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Annette Massey. They have three children, Kimberly Massey Gann (Husband Phil), Phillip Massey (wife Marsha), and Cindy Massey Scott (Husband Mike). He was survived by 10 grandchildren, Clete Thomas (wife Susie), Cayla Anderson (husband Ryan), Alex Gann, Trent Massey, William Massey, Jack Massey, Katie Scott, Slayton Scott, Holly Scott, and Olivia Scott. He also had one great- grand child, Brooks Massey Thomas and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 9th from 3:00 PM- 6:00 PM at Northside Baptist Church, 530 Airport Road. A celebration of his life will begin at 6:00 PM officiated by Rev. Luther Stanford, Rev. Mike Thornton, and Rev. Jerry Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be all the members of his beloved Sunday school class. The family will have a private burial on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Jim Massey.
