Obituary

James Earl Kent, 74, of Callaway, Fl, went to be with the Lord on October 9, 2008 at a local hospital. He was born September 4, 1934 in Chipley, FL. He was a retired Minister of Music, Education and Youth having served for over 45 years in several Southern Baptist Churches in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. He also taught Adjunct & Voice Performance at Gulf Coast Community College. He was a recognized faceter with Gem Cutters of America. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City and the Southern Baptist Centurymen. He was preceded in death by his father, Amos O. Kent. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte A. Kent; 2 daughters, Laura A. Cornell and husband, LTC Joel Cornell of Riverview, FL; Linda C. Linn and husband, Jay Linn of Cartersville, GA; son, Christopher A. Kent and wife, Lisa of Hollywood, FL; mother, Eunice Kent of Bonifay, FL; 3 brothers, Henry Ray Kent and wife, Pat of Bonifay; Phillip Kent and wife, Patsy, of Crestview, FL; Mike Kent of Bonifay, 4 grandsons, Tyler Linn, Hayes Linn, Jacob Cornell, Jason Cornell, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Panama City with Rev. Randy Kuhn, Rev. Clyde Ellison and Rev. Manny Garcia officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Saturday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1200, Panama City, FL 32402 or to Gulf Coast Community College, 5230 West Hwy 98, Panama City, FL 32401, for a vocal performance scholarship in memory of James Kent. The family would like to thank the physicians and staff of Bay Medical Center CVICU & MICU and Dr. Bruce Josten for their excellent care.
