JAMES PATRICK KEARNEY
James Patrick Kearney, 90, of Panama City died on November 20th at Community Health and Rehab Center. He was born April 29, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY where he spent his younger years and a resident of Panama City, FL for the past 65 years. As a veteran of WWII, he participated in the Normandy invasion while serving in the US Coast Guard. In 1980, he retired from the USPS after 30 years of service as a postal letter carrier. He was an avid fisherman and bird hunter. In his later years, he enjoyed dancing with the Panama City Square and Round Dance Association.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Pitts Kearney. He is survived by his wife Betty Wright Kearney; brother Bob Kearney of Long Island, NY; children, Mike Kearney (Sylvia) of Panama City and Cheryl McGregor (Jim) of Powder Springs, GA; stepchildren, Cindy Wright (Terrell Martin) of Baton Rouge, LA, Steve Wright (Pauline) of Buckeye, AZ, and Debby Wright of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Phillip Kearney of Martinsburg, PA, Shane Kearney (Oxana) of Panama City, Shawn Kearney of Panama City, and Bob McGregor (Courtney) Chiang Mai, Thailand; step-grandchildren, Mike, Jason, Justin and Matt Wright all of Phoenix, AZ, Jack Martin (Johannna) of Lewisville, TX, and Sam Martin of Baton Rouge, LA; great-grandchildren, Mya Kearney of London, England, Ivy Frazier of Panama City, and Irie Isaac of Panama City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 pm Saturday prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Joe McClendon, Dave Lingo, Phillip Kearney, Shane Kearney, Jack Martin, and Sam Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Richards and Bill Bovard.
