Gregory Johnson
January 20, 1947 – February 13, 2022
James Gregory "Greg" Johnson, 75, of Port St. Joe, Florida, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022, with his loving family by his side.
Greg was born January 20, 1947, in LaGrange, Georgia before moving to Panama City, FL as a child. He graduated from Bay High School in 1965 and attended Gulf Coast Community College. Greg joined the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. In 1969, Greg began a banking career that spanned more than 40 years. He was President and CEO of Citizens Federal Savings Bank and formed Bayside Savings Bank. Greg served on the Florida Banker's Association Board of Directors for four years. He credited much of his professional success to the support of his wonderful co-workers.
Greg was committed to his faith. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe where he served in several leadership and support roles including Vice Chairman of the building committee creating the "Great Hall."
Greg was also committed to his community. He was a member of the Panama City Jaycees in the 1980's, a member of the Port St. Joe Lion's Club for more than 25 years and a member of the George G. and Amelia G. Tapper Foundation Board. Greg served on the City of Port St. Joe Commission for two years. He was a member of the Gulf Coast State College Board of Trustees for eight years and was proud to have played a role in the opening of the Gulf/Franklin Center Campus.
Greg was preceded in death by his mother and father, James and Edna Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda Armstrong Johnson; sister, Trina Cogburn (Clay) of Panama City, FL; daughters Carly Pickels (Bobby) of Tallahassee, FL, and Gena Johnson (Katie) of Wewahitchka, FL; and grandsons Chase Lanford and Luke Pickels.
Services will be at 4:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe in the Great Hall with visitation at 3:00 p.m. EST. Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Lentz officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe.
