James Daniel "Dan" Shores, 102, of Panama City, Florida passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022. He was born December 18, 1919, in Chipley, Florida to William and Mary Shores and grew up on the family farm at Hard Labor Creek. He served in the Army during WWII, enlisting on December 1, 1942, he served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, in the Huertgen Forest, and marched in the Liberation Parade in Paris. Discharged in October of 1945, he moved to Panama City where he was an Instrument Control Technician at the Papermill. He married Mary Francis Miller on November 22, 1951. They were married for 66 years before her passing. He was a member of the Parker Masonic Lodge #142, a founding member of the Parker Volunteer Fire Department and the First Baptist Church of Parker. He is preceded in death by 9 siblings, Rebecca Blue, Isaac Shores, Ira Shores, Josiah Shores, Thelma Sapp, Clariece Shores, Richard Eugene Shores, Helen Pippin, and Billy Shores. He is survived by one son, Kim Daniel Shores (Debi); one daughter, Kay Thomas; three grandchildren, Melissa Barnes (Scott), Courtney Anderson (West), Joshua Shores (Megan); four great grandchildren, Corbin Anderson, Olivia Barnes, Amelia Barnes, Emery Anderson; one sister, Mary Frances Fussell; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are Monday, May 23, 2022, at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and internment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Those desiring, may make memorial donations to Covenant Hospice in memory of Dan Shores.
