JAMES P. CLARK, JR.
James P. "Jim" Clark, Jr., 93, of Panama City Beach, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013. He was born September 14, 1920 in Keysville, Georgia to James P. Sr. and Voncile Clark and grew up in Valdosta, Georgia. Jim joined the United States Navy one week after Pearl Harbor, served stateside and at sea during the invasion of Okinawa, and remained in the U. S. Naval Reserve until
retirement in 1977. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida State University, was principal of schools in Georgia and Florida, was Supervisor of Schools for Suwanee County prior to relocating to Panama City in July 1960 as the first recreation director and coach at Gulf Coast Junior College. Although he owned and operated (with his son, Kimball) Jim Clark Realty, the oldest independently owned real estate office in Panama City, he remained dedicated to youth education, especially to Saint Andrew School where he served on the advisory board. The civic-minded Jim served on numerous boards and committees and had been a member of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce since 1960.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kimball Joseph Clark; and his sister, Dorothy. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Kathryn "Kitty" Clark; three grandchildren, Katie Maria Clark, Daniel Thomas Clark, Kelsea Corrine Clark; two great grandchildren, Willow Kate Callahan, Sarah Pandora Callahan; one sister, Betty Lee; and a special nephew, Richard Lee. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Virgil Tillman officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 - 2 p.m. prior to the service.
