Obituary

James Lawton (Sport) Bailey of Panama City Beach, FL, died Thursday, August 2, 2007. He was born July 23, 1922 in Easton, GA. and moved to Montgomery, Al with his family as a child. He attended Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery AL and was an avid fan of the Alabama football team. He moved to Louisville KY in 1958, because of his job with the L & N Railroad. He was predeceased by his wife Betty M. Bailey on January 12, 2001, father, Guy Hubert Bailey on December 19, 1983 and mother Daisy Rawlins Bailey on February 16, 1985.

Survivors include his only child, Scarlotte Holmes and husband John of Panama City Beach, FL, three grandchildren, Cassandra Dudley of Montgomery, AL; Paula Daskalakis and husband Charles of Oceanside, NY; Edward Punt and wife Manuela of Kingston, PA.; nine great-grandchildren: Kristen Moore, Meagan Dudley, Brandon Gomez, Sophia Daskalakis, Nickolas Daskalakis, Stephen Daskalakis, Kelly Punt, Ashley Punt and Valerie Punt; four great-great-grandsons, Logan Moore, Johnathan Shays, Justin Moore, Jacob Best; brothers Guy Bailey, Jr. and wife Henriette of Montgomery, AL; Frank Bailey and wife Dorothy of Montgomery, AL; Gene Bailey and wife Mary of Middleburg, FL; Philip Bailey and wife Judy of Blythwood, SC; sisters; Lois Kelly and husband Jack of Montgomery, AL and Dorothy Harris and husband Erastus of Montgomery, AL.

He started his career with the L & N Railroad on November 18, 1942 and retired as General Vice-president with the Brotherhood Railway Carmen of the United States and Canada on September 1, 1987. A member of the Transportation Communication International Union (TCU) He was baptized September 2, 1990 and became a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church in 1991. He especially enjoyed the Chapel Sunday school class and considered all the members his friends.

He became a master mason on September 23, 1947 with the Keystone Lodge Montgomery, AL (60 years) and a member of the Scottish Rite since June 24, 1948 (60 years). He was also a member of the Eastern Star in KY and a member of the Red Elephant Club in Panama City, FL. He was a commissioned Kentucky Colonel on the staff of the Governor of Kentucky.

The family will receive friends at the Wilson Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Saturday with funeral services to be conducted at 7 p.m. The family will receive friends at the White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, Montgomery, Alabama from 4-6 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery.
