JACK GARY OAKES

Jack Gary Oakes, 75, of Panama City Beach, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012. He was born February 11, 1937 in Conneaut, Ohio. Jack was the former owner and operator of the Beachcomber by the Sea Motel. He was one of the founders of Little League Baseball at Frank Brown Park. Jack was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He always wanted them to do their very best and never be late. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Murry Oakes, Sr. and Isabelle Park; and one brother, Chuck Oakes. He is survived by his three children, Jason Oakes (Amanda), Stephanie Oakes Herring (Mike), all of Panama City Beach, Becky Oakes Burch (Christian), of Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren who knew him as Grandpoppa, Ava, Finn, Grady, Emmett, Jacob, Gunnar; and his beloved dog, Mack. Memorialization will be by cremation and per his wishes, his cremains will be scattered at sea. A Laugh at Life ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Buccaneer Bar and Grill on Beach Drive. In lieu of flowers, please read a book and be kind to others.
