Obituary

ISAAC M. POLAN

Isaac died. You may have known him as Mike. Through the years, his name morphed from Ike to Mike. He was born in Boston in 1924, the third son of Louis and Mary Polansky. His parents immigrated to this country in 1911 to escape religious persecution in Czarist Russia. Early on, Mike had a profound appreciation of our form of government. It was not as though he loved some of the idiots who came to public office but two things were constants in his life: He was a patriot and believed in his God.

He attended Boston Public Schools. He was a graduate of Dorchester High School for Boys. He entered the service of Army Air Corps in 1942, served four years, eighteen months in the Pacific with distinction.

After service, he attended college under the G.I. Bill of rights with an undergraduate degree from Grove City College, Pennsylvania, and Masters from the University of Pittsburgh. His specialty was retail management, traditional department stores, long before the advent of the Marts. He worked as department store manager and New England Regional manager for Kline's department stores, N.Y. He worked for them for twenty three years.

He came to Florida in 1973 and with his associate, partner, wife, established "Suzie's" fine women's apparel on Harrison Avenue. During this period, as his wife ran the business, he was also an Associate Professor at Iowa State University for five years. They were in business for twenty years and retired in 1995.

Since then, it was the good life: Tennis (he always thought he played better than he did), Gardening (he grew great tomatoes) Fishing (he thought he knew more about wind, tide and bay bottom than anyone else).

As he matured he recognized how much easier it was to do all the right things in life than it was when he was younger.

He leaves his beloved, business associate, partner and wife Elisabeth Robinson; three children: Ellen Sue Polan, Grand Junction Colorado, David Edward Polan, Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and Mindy Beth Polan, Jackson Hole Wyoming and two granddaughters from Sue, Sara and Nala Polan.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
