Irma B. Shirah passed away on Friday, August 28, 2020 in Mobile, AL surrounded by her family. Irma was born on August 5, 1927 to her parents, Robert and Rosalie Bowdoin in Coffee Springs, AL. She always wanted to be a nurse and was proud to be a member of the first graduating class of Licensed Practical Nurses at Tom P. Haney Vocational School in 1958 and practiced until she was 72-years of age.
Irma was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband, Pete Shirah, Sr., sister Merle Mixson, and a brother, Edgar Bowdoin.
Survivors include her four children, Phyllis Gillespie and Faye Hutt of Panama City, Rhonda Lee of Mobile, AL and Pete Shirah, Jr. (Carolyn) of Havana, FL., 8 grandchildren, 13 great/grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren. Also a sister-in-law Carolyn S. Toole and family of Lubbock, TX., and a special niece, Starla Christakos of Niceville, FL.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a family graveside service will be held on September 5, 2020. A celebration of her long, wonderful life will be held at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers that you share a smile or complete a deed for someone in need.
