Irjaria Mae "Janice" Birmingham
August 23, 1922 — November 19, 2011
Irjaria Mae "Janice" Birmingham, "Granny B" to all who knew her, age 89 of Wewahitchka, went home to be with the Lord on November 19, 2011. She was surrounded by her children and family at home.
She was born in Kentucky on August 23, 1922 but later moved to West Virginia where she lived until she visited Camp Blanding on Thanksgiving Day in 1942 and met a handsome soldier whom became her devoted husband of 58 years. She lived most of her life in Wewahitchka, Florida where she worked as a grocery store cashier and as a clerk for Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative, but is most well known as "The Candy & Cake Lady" of Gulf County and "Granny B" to the numerous children she cared for in her home daycare. She was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church and was known as a woman of tremendous faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman H. Birmingham, and three grandsons, Hank Rish, Marty Pippin, and Timothy Pippin. She is survived by her children, Galena Pippin, Joyce Groom, Connie St. Clair and Doug Birmingham (Becky) all of Wewahitchka; grandchildren, Ralph Rish of Port St. Joe, Cole Pippin (Carol), Terri Myers (Ray),and Paul Groom all of Wewahitchka, Jennifer Meyers (Sean) of Tallahassee, Matthew Birmingham (Bridget) of Wewahitchka, Angela Creel (Keith) of Combined Locks, Wisconsin, Judith Clayton of Wewahitchka, and Amy Hobbs (Lamar) of Panama City; 22 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Wewahitchka, with Rev. W. Neal Miller and Rev. Joey Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Jehu Cemetery in Wewahitchka. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Wewahitchka.
