Inez Smith Prather passed away peacefully late Friday night. She was born on December 22, 1927 in Oakey Streak, Alabama. Inez was preceded in death by her parents, James Henry Smith and Annis Posey Smith; her former husband, Solomon Prather; her brother, Leon; her sisters, Lillian, Nell, Rudy, Virginia, Frances and Willene; one grandson, Jason Prather; as well as one great grandson, Samuel Salyer. Inez is survived by her children, and their spouses, Alan Prather and his wife Beth, Joel Prather and his wife Robyn, Timothy Prather and his wife Rose, and her daughter, Gail Klanjac Browning and her husband Dave Browning; her brother, Robert Glenn Smith, of Andalusia, Alabama. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Scot Prather, Casey Prather, Allie Prather, Leah Salyer, Cliff Prather, Stephanie Holbrook, Kindall Kennedy, Timothy Prather, Chris Prather, Adam Klanjac, Austin Klanjac, Andrew Klanjac. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews with whom she had very close relationships. Inez, known by her many, many friends as "Nezzie", was a kind, caring woman. She was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church where she remained a devoted member for 64 years. During that time she enjoyed her love of music by singing in the church choir as well as various ensembles. She nurtured children by teaching in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She had a great love for her church. After devoting much of her adult life to raising her children she worked as a teacher's assistant at Cedar Grove Elementary for many years until her retirement. She loved to take care of people using her gifts of southern hospitality and cooking. Well into her latter years she would have family and friends gather around her table for a homemade meal. Inez had a home full of laughter, lively conversation, comfort, and sage advise. She had a huge forgiving heart full of love, acceptance, compassion, and gratitude. To know her was to love her, she continued to bless those around her until the very end of her life. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 6 pm at City Church of Northside Annex. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 5-6 pm prior to the service. A family burial will be held on Friday at 9:30 am in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
