HUBERT L. HOOD SR.
Hubert L. Hood, Sr., 89, of Fountain, Florida, died August 5, 2006 in a local hospital. He was born August 6, 1916 in Coffee County, Alabama to John Henry Hood Sr. and Mary Etta Crocker Hood. He was a retired Master Sergeant serving for 24 years in the United States Army, 25th Infantry, 34th Regiment, Black Panther division, L Company, during World War II and the Lightning Division during the Korean War. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He attended Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Florala, Alabama and First Baptist Church of Fountain. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Una Hood and Lorna Hood, and grandson, Carl Lee Melcher Jr (Tank). He is survived by 2 sons, Craig S. Hood and wife Anna of Fountain, Hubert L. Hood Jr. and wife Carol of Chesapeake, Virginia, 2 daughters, Kathleen M. Melcher and husband Carl of Compass Lake, Florida, Cynthia K. Pannell and husband David of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, 2 brothers, Glenn Hood and wife Dong of San Antonio, Texas, John Henry Hood Jr. of Ocala, Florida, 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Fountain with Dr. Larry Wade officiating. Interment will follow in the Fountain Cemetery with full military honors. Active pallbearers will be Austin Hood, Catlin Hood, Michael Melcher, Justin Sherrard, Brian Hood and William Hernandez. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
