HERMAN O. ROOKS

August 28, 1921— November 17, 2011

Herman O. Rooks died November 17, 2011. He was born August 28, 1921 in Washington, GA. He attended school in Washington and graduated from high school there.

Herman received his B. S. Degree from Berry College and his Master's Degree from University of Wisconsin at Madison. He served in the U. S. Air Force during WWII and was Navigator on a B24.

He returned to Berry College and taught there for seven years, and then seven years at R. E. Lee Institute in Thomaston, GA. In 1960, he and his family moved to Panama City, FL where he enjoyed teaching at GCCC until his retirement.

Herman is survived by his wife of 68 years, Daphine Lummus Rooks and two sons and their families: Joseph B. Rooks and wife, Gloria Hale and Leland and Sheila Rooks. Grandchildren are Elisabeth, Patrick, Grace, Alison, Christopher (Deana) and David Rooks. He was survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by seven siblings.

Herman was a devoted and active member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church. His memorial service will be held at St. Andrew United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Dan Nixon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 – 11 a.m. before the service.

The family wishes to thank Emerald Coast Hospice and Panama City Nursing Center for their services. Instead of flowers, those who wish to make a donation may make a donation in memory of Herman Rooks to St. Andrew United Methodist Endowment Fund, Emerald Coast Hospice or to a charity of your choice.
