Mr. Herbert Patton Sapp. Jr. passed away on July 11, 2016 in his home. He was born in Panama City on August 6, 1940 to Anna Louise Watson Sapp and Herbert Patton Sapp, Sr. He graduated from Bay County High School in 1958 and subsequently obtained his B.A. and Juris Prudence degree from Washington and Lee University in Virginia. After leaving college he fulfilled his military obligation in the United States Army. He was admitted to the bar and entered into the private practice of law in a firm established by his grandfather, father and uncle. He was active in the local Bar Association and in many community organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce. He was an ardent supporter of the arts and served on the board of the Panama City Music Association (that his mother was instrumental in founding and who served as first president), and actively supported other organizations such as the Pops and Bay Arts.
Mr. Sapp is remembered as being thoughtful to friends and family by never letting a holiday or special occasion go by without marking it with a card or gift. He never met a stranger and could carry on a meaningful conversation about almost any topic. He is pre-deceased by his brother, James Mercer Sapp and a nephew. Troy Alexander Sapp. He is survived by his sister Miriam (Mimi) Bozarth, nieces Theresa Sapp Kennedy (Jerry) of Texas, Kimberly Sapp Smith (Mike) of Illinois, Allison Sapp Smitz of Panama City, nephews James Sapp and John Patton Bozarth (Sheena) of Panama City, and numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Thursday July 21, 2016 at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Friends who wish to mark his passing may do so by donating to the Panama City Music Association, P.O. Box 133, Panama City, FL 32402.
