HERBERT THOMAS ETHERIDGE, SR.

Herbert Thomas Etheridge, Sr., 88, of Panama City, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2008. He was born October 10, 1919 in Belle Isle, Florida (which is now Tyndall Field) and had been a lifelong resident of Bay County. He was the founder of Etheridge Cabinet Shop, Inc. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, active member of the Lillie Pennington Sunday School Class and was a past administrative board member. He also taught Youth Sunday School for Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a Charter member of the Panama City Optimist Club, member of the American Legion and was a Lay speaker for Gideons International. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Herbert Thomas Etheridge, Jr. Dr. George W. Etheridge, his parents, George and Martha Etheridge and four brothers, John Etheridge, Gilbrey Etheridge, George Etheridge and Edward Etheridge. He is survived by his wife, Opal Etheridge, children, Martha Ann Etheridge Shaw and husband Mack Shaw, of Columbia, TN, Sharron Etheridge, of Panama City, daughters-in-law, Dr. Carol Etheridge Caughey, Dr. Sandra Etheridge Barkley, eleven grandchildren, Dr. H.T. "Tom" Etheridge, III. and wife Dr. Louanne Etheridge, Lisa Etheridge Red and husband Charles "Chuck" Red, Lee Etheridge and wife Lisa Etheridge, Michelle Shaw, Patty Hendrix, Monica Shaw Graham and husband Darell, Jon Mark Shaw and wife Marie, Sandra McKay, Franklin McKay, Jr., Alexander Etheridge and wife Karen, Dr. Eric Etheridge and wife Dr. Lydia Love, eighteen great grandchildren, Jason Brooks, Amber Brooks, Heather Brooks Lewis and husband Evan Lewis, Cory Hmielewski, Molley Red, Katie Red, Charlie Red, Kristen Hope McKay, Klint Thomas McKay, Haley Etheridge, Logan Etheridge, Kelsey Marie Shaw, Carson Cade Shaw, Charlize Etheridge, Gavin Etheridge, Zoe Opal Etheridge, Sarah Beth McKay, Alison Rolley, two great great grandchildren, Ramona Lynn Lewis and Braxton Shaw Brooks. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Warren officiating. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Panama City Memorial Fund.
