Obituary

HENRY LEONARD HILTON-GREEN, JR.

Henry Leonard Hilton-Green, Jr., age 92, died on April 27, 2012 in a local Panama City Hospital.

Mr. Hilton-Green was the son of the late Henry Leonard Hilton-Green and the late Virginia Pritchard Hilton-Green of Pensacola, Florida. He was descended from his grandfather, Leonard Hilton-Green, an early banker and timberland owner in Escambia County, Florida, and descended from General Samuel G. French, Confederate States of America. Mr. Hilton-Green's father and grandfather founded a steamship agency with offices in Pensacola, Mobile, Panama City and Tampa, which agency later become Fillette-Green and Company. His father was one of the co-founders of Florida Pulp and Paper Company, later St. Regis.

Mr. Hilton-Green was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Prevost Hilton-Green. He left as survivors, his brother William Henderson Hilton-Green and wife, Patricia Hilton-Green; his step-daughter, Joan Fortune; his step-son, Harry Prevost and wife, Frances; his step-granddaughter, Julie Anna Prevost; his step-grandson, Brian Alan Chambless; and numerous step-nephews and nieces.

Mr. Hilton-Green graduated from Woodbury Forrest Preparatory School in Orange, Virginia, and attended Auburn University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Mr. Hilton-Green was especially proud of his service in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and the Coast Guard Auxiliary thereafter, serving in Coast Guard Stations in Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Norfolk.

Shortly after returning home to Fillette-Green after the war, Mr. Hilton-Green was transferred to Panama City to manage the family business operations there. He continued in that capacity until his retirement in1989. Mr. Hilton-Green remained in Panama City until his death.

Both before and during retirement, he was a devoted member of the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club where he was Commodore in 1990 and served on the board of governors in several capacities thereafter. As a result of his association with the SABYC, he later served as the first president of the newly established Blue Gavel Society of the Gulf Yachting Association.

He also served on the Bay County Chamber of Commerce and was a Chamber Ambassador.

His great love was boating and the water from childhood, and his relatives, friends and shipmates will miss him greatly.

The family wishes to recognize Sheila Regan and Cindy Hall for the care they took of him during his declining years.

Services will be held at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, Panama City, Florida, on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at two o'clock. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service.
