Henrietta (Etta) Sowell
Mrs. Henrietta (Etta) Sowell, born on November 12, 1907, passed away in a local hospital on May 25, 2007.
Etta was born in Calhoun County, Florida and lived there for 19 years before her marriage to George Leslie Sowell, and moved to Bay County in 1926. She gave birth to seven children. Four of the seven lived to be adults and have families. She also raised five step-children that Les had when they were married.
Etta was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Dona Herndon, husband George Leslie Sowell, one son and daughter, Alfred & Beatrice Sowell, 3 step-sons, William, Thomas & Alvin Sowell, 1 stepdaughter, Mildred (Curry) Johnson, 1 sister, Mamie Capps, 6 brothers, George, William, Ira, James Lee, J.C., and Henry Herndon.
Survivors include, sons, Lawrence Sowell and wife Theresa, Victor Sowell and wife Dorothy, James Sowell and wife Linda, daughter, Mamie Goines Bolling and husband Ed, step-daughter, Bertha Gordon, brother, Everitt Herndon, sisters Virginia Mansfield, and Daisy Atkinson, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren and 11 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Advent Christian Church in West Bay Florida and interment will follow at West Bay Cemetery, with the Rev. David Buchanan and Rev. Virgil Tillman officiating. The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 – 8 p.m.
