Helen Marie Ullman, 87, passed away on December 14, 2009, at her home in Panama City, Fl. She was born on April 18, 1922, to Thomas and Loretta Shaughnessy of Central Islip, New York. Before her marriage to Albert Fisher Ullman in 1944, Helen received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City and, subsequently, worked as a nurse, while Albert completed his medical training at New York's Columbia Medical School. She and Dr. Ullman moved to Panama City in 1951 for Dr. Ullman to become Bay County's first public health physician and for Helen to become a very busy mother, homemaker, bridge player, golfer and volunteer. She was a long time member of St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, a member of the St. Andrew Bay Yacht Club, and a former member of the Panama City Country Club. She also spent many years as a volunteer with the Bay Medical Center Auxiliary. Helen was preceded in death by Dr. Ullman, who passed away in 1994, and by her first born son, Albert Gary Ullman, who died in 1996. She is survived by her son, Tom Ullman, and wife, Ann, of Ft. Myers, Fl; her two daughters, Kathy Barr and husband, Jimmy, and Jo Bruhn and husband, Dick, both of Panama City; and her daughter-in-law, Jackie Ullman, also of Panama City. "Nana", as she was affectionately known by many, is also survived by her six grandchildren - Allison Ullman, Chris Barr, Craig Barr, Stephanie Ullman Grau and husband, Eric, Kevin Barr, and Matthew Bruhn. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday afternoon from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and a rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Those desiring to do so are encouraged to make contributions to their favorite charities in memory of Helen Ullman.
