Helen Virginia Thompson Hindsman, 91, of Panama City, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. She was born December 26, 1925, in Fairfield, Alabama to Luther & Daisy Thompson. She attended Fairfield High School. After graduation she moved to Mobile, Alabama, and met the love of her life, John Gordon Hindsman Jr. While living in Mobile, she was employed at GM&O Railroad. They married in 1945 and moved to Panama City in 1946. She was a member of the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club for 71 years; was an Emeritus member of the Junior Service League; was Past President of the Lions Auxiliary; and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lillie Pennington Sunday School Class. Helen loved cooking, movies, books and especially her bridge groups with her friends. She worked for 24 years as a Registrar's Secretary at Gulf Coast Community College. Any student who went through Gulf Coast at that time had to go through "Mrs. Helen". Helen was best known for her southern grace, hospitality, and her love of entertaining friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years; her parents; her in-laws, Gordon & Lucille Hindsman; sister and brother-in-law, Bettye Jo & Cranston Hamil; aunt & uncle, Emmett & Louise Hughes; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy & Vic Carter, great granddaughter, Grace Ann Rolf, and many of her closest life time friends. Helen is survived by two sons, Jay Hindsman (Lyn); David Hindsman (Krista); daughter, Marsha H. Southall; four grandchildren, Jason Como, Craig Hindsman (Amanda); Julie Ann Rolf (Brian); Natalie Patterson (Travis); six great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Carson, Ellakate, Andrew, Miller, Rose and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Craig Hindsman and Rev. Steve Rascoe officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Private family interment will be in the Forest Lawn Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Gulf Coast State College Foundation; the Panama City Humane Society; St. Judes Children's Hospital; or to First United Methodist Church.
