Helen Cook Altenpohl, 93, of Panama City Beach, FL passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015. Helen was born on December 5, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to John Edward Cook and Helen Mildred Cook. She had an undergraduate degree from Rosemont College with a Master's Degree from Temple University in primary education.
She worked for a short time as an educator before devoting her life to family. Originally from Pennsylvania, she resided in North Carolina for several years before coming to Bay County, Florida in 1988. She enjoyed her retirement with family, gardening, clubs, decorating and her beloved cats. She is survived by her four children, Joan Altenpohl and her husband John Hyland, William F. Altenpohl and his wife Karen, Kathryn Corrado and her husband Dennis and Helen Heinz and her husband Steve. Residing in Bay County are two of her grandchildren Joan Shannon Hyland and Kathryn Hyland.
I want to give a special thank you to all the caregivers, pet sitters and Dr. Tabbaa for keeping mom true to herself. A deep hearted thank you for the enhancement to living. At 93 she stated, "I would love to do it all again; embrace each day".
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm at Wilson Funeral Home, Panama City, Florida on Monday, October 19, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 21 at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Highpoint, North Carolina. Interment will follow at the Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point, North Carolina.
