HAZEL CONNELL FERRELL
Hazel Connell Ferrell, 97, of Port St. Joe, Florida passed away September 10, 2010. A native of Gulf County, she was born in Wewahitchka, Florida, but moved to Port St. Joe at an early age. She graduated Valedictorian from her senior class there. After high school, she began her teaching career in Frink, Florida, later attended Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee, and then returned to Gulf County where she taught for several years. Mrs. Ferrell was a charter member of Long Avenue Baptist Church where she served as church pianist and organist for 50 years. She also taught Sunday School for many years. Preceding her in death were her husband, William Joseph Ferrell; parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Connell; and sister, Ruth Braxton. Survivors include her brother-in-law, Thomas J. Braxton; nephew, Wayne Braxton and wife Lota Kay; niece, Jennifer Braxton; nephew, Jed Braxton and wife Kathy; 2 great nieces, Ashleigh Taylor and husband David and Bethany Riley and husband, Shawn; 1 great nephew, Jameson B. Cullifer and 4 great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Ferrell will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 2 p.m. EDT at Long Avenue Baptist Church in Port St. Joe with Rev. Royce Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Jehu Cemetery, Wewahitchka, Florida. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. EDT, one hour prior to service time, at the Long Avenue Baptist Church in Port St. Joe.
