Obituary

HARVEY MEIGS HALLMON

On July 6, 2006, Harvey Meigs Hallmon passed gently into the arms of his Lord with his family by his side. Meigs as his family knew Him, often told his family that he was ready and looking forward to meeting His Lord and Savior. Although we rejoice with him, we will sadly miss him. He has left behind his loving wife, Sara Alice Hallmon of 68 years. Also two children, Dr. David Hallmon and wife Leonor, daughter, Sylvia and her husband Christin Hughes, grandchildren, Darrell Hallmon, Denise Rowan, Robert Casey, Connie McKenzie, Chris Hughes, Dr. Tamara Hughes, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Dean Dial, and Troy Bailey and numerous nieces and nephews. Meigs was born August 12, 1918 in Brent, Alabama. He moved to Panama City in 1937. He retired from St. Joe Paper Company as a maintenance supervisor. He will also be remembered by many for his Christmas Tree Farm at Econfina Creek. He was a member of the Parker Masonic Lodge #142 for over 50 years. Meigs and Sara are members of the First United Methodist Church of Panama City. Speaking for our parents, they grew up in the depression and worked hard to provide a home for their family. They always taught us high standards, respect for others, and love of our Lord. Daddy taught us to "do unto others, as we would have others do unto us." Meigs especially loved floundering and Bar-B-Qing which he passed his knowledge on to his grandsons. As we start on our journey in life without our husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, we ask God's peace and rejoice that our loved one knew the Lord personally. He was a good man. We will miss him. Thank you for nearly 88 years for our husband and father. We do not know our future, but we do know who will control our future. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Mashburn Cemetery at Econfina Creek. Masonic rites will be held at the graveside. Parker Lodge will open 1 hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at the funeral home from 3 – 5 p.m. Those desiring may make donations to Covenant Hospice in memory of Meigs Hallmon.
