GREGORY MALONE BROOKINS

1953-2009

Gregory Malone Brookins, 56, of Panama City, passed away Friday, August 14, 2009. He was born May 12, 1953 in Panama City. He attended Cedar Grove Elementary School, Everitt Junior High School, and graduated from Rutherford High School in 1971. He graduated from Gulf Coast Community College, University of West Florida and was a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi where he received a master of divinity degree. After graduation, he served as Assistant Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and later was Assistant Pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Later he was an adjunct professor at St. Leo College in New Jersey. When he returned to Panama City, he worked with the Juvenile Detention Center for several years. He worked in other capacities including six years with the Korean Presbyterian Church leading the choir and filling the pulpit when needed. At present, he had been attending First Presbyterian Church in Panama City. He is survived by his parents, Jackie and James Ray Brookins; brother, Kenneth Ray and wife, Jennifer; niece, Kristen and boyfriend, Matthew Brown; nephew, Clay and wife Alicia; two aunts, Norma Schwaderer and husband Jim, Gaile Bass and husband, Gene and several cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant Christian School in memory of Gregory Brookins.
