GLORIA JONES SHUMATE

Shumate, Gloria Jones, 86, Retired Director of Secondary and Adult Education of Pinellas County Schools (Florida), passed away March 19th in Panama City, Fl. She was born in Meridian, Ms. where she graduated from Clarkdale High School and then earned her undergraduate degree at Mississippi State University and her Masters degree at University of South Florida. She is survived by two sons: Dr. Jack Shumate and Ted Shumate; three grandchildren: Capt. Daryl Shumate, Dr. Byron Shumate, and Jessica Shumate Henning; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jack B. Shumate Sr., last month and a memorial service will be held for both at New Hope Baptist Church, 6573 Highway 145, Meridian, Mississippi, Saturday, March 23 at 2:00pm. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service.
