GLADYS JERNIGAN MORRISON YOUNG
Gladys Jernigan Morrison Young, 89, of Panama City, Florida, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in Glen Cove Nursing Pavilion. She was born February 5, 1922 in Ponce DeLeon, Florida. She was a 1941 graduate of Bay High School. She owned the Coffee Cup Restaurant and she owned Mom's Bar for 17 years. Mrs. Young was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She loved her family, gardening, shelling peas and cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis Thomas & Sarah Martha Cooper Jernigan; brother, Leonard F. Jernigan; sisters, Irene Mitchell, Dorothy Cobb; and her first husband and the father of her children, Hurtis L. Morrison. She is survived by her husband, Melbourne F. Young; five children, Martha Strange (Herbert), Bobby Morrison (Karen), Beth McLean (J.E.), Maxine Ramsey, Ricky Morrison, all of Panama City; six step children, Barbara Walter (Howard), Mary Louise Burnham (Walter), Ronald M. Young, Elizabeth Dianne Steen, Sherry Fullilove (Lance), Leslie O'Brien (Steve); six grandchildren, Sara Fouse Barthel, of Portland, OR, Van Morrison, of Charleston, SC, Debra Vidrine, of Baton Rouge, LA, Pamela Marshall, of Huntsville, AL, Justin Morrison, Chloe Ramsey, both of Panama City; and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. David Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Millville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 2322 E 3rd Street, Panama City, FL 32401 in memory of Gladys Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Rudolph Prowse, Robert Way, Charles Cunningham, Howard Smith, Wayne McCloud, Eddie Dean and Bill Akers. The family wishes to thank the staff at Glen Cove Nursing Pavilion for their excellent care.
