In loving memory of Gerry Hughes Clayton, 93, of Panama City, passed peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2017, which was the same date of her wedding 76 years ago. She was born on February 1, 1924 in Birmingham, AL to Asbury and Lila Grace Hughes. Gerry and her husband, C. B., were the founders of City Drugs in 1948 and remained in operation for 69 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll B. Clayton; son, Richard Clayton; brother, Carl Hughes; son-in-law, Stephen Carey. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Carey; three granddaughters, Brandi Eslava, Karissa Clayton, Stephanie Carey; three great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Lilli, and Brantley Eslava; one brother, Roderick Hughes (Pauline). Funeral Services will be this Friday, July 28, 2017, at 10 am at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel followed by internment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers for those wishing to honor her vibrant selfless life, may make memorial donations to Covenant Care Hospice, 107 W. 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Gerry Clayton.
