Obituary

George Bowen Thomas, 93, of Panama City, passed away October 13, 2012. He was born December 28, 1918, in Hard Labor Creek, Florida and a 1937 graduate of Bay High School. He served in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II. He retired as a supervisor for Gulf Power in 1981, where he worked for 44 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Panama City and a longstanding member of the Panama City Country Club. He was the last surviving child of Noah Enoch and Sarah Elizabeth Bowen Thomas. He was preceded in death by his eight siblings, Ruth Thomas Oats, Mark William Thomas, Noah Earl Thomas, Henry Kermit Thomas, Louis Hugh Thomas, Elizabeth Thomas Guy, Paul Hoyt Thomas and Clyde Lawrence Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Miller Thomas; his two children, William Howell Thomas and wife Barbara, Leesa Thomas Russell and husband, Ken; three grandchildren, Jennifer Rae Thomas, Kenneth Thomas Russell and Charles Bowen Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Covenant Hospice, 107 West 19th Street, Panama City, Florida 32405 in memory of George Bowen Thomas.
