GAYLON B. STOVALL
Captain Gaylon B. Stovall, of Panama City, passed away Monday, August 04, 2008 in his home.
He was a York Rite Christian Mason and past master of Parker Lodge #142. Being active in the Crippled and Burned Children's Program at Shaddai Shriners Temple was a great pleasure to him, as he loved all children, especially those in need.
A United States Licensed Coast Guard/Merchant Marine Officer and Master of ocean going vessels, he was also in and out of the commercial, charter and party fishing industry. He operated tug boats, barges and deliveries of ocean going vessels throughout his life. Other occupations included Journeyman Boilermaker-Blacksmith, High Pressure Steam Welder-Fitter, Ironworker, High-Steel Rigger Connector and Cross County Tank Truck Driver.
He was born July 2, 1945, in Alabama and raised from infancy in Bay County, Florida. He had traveled much by land, air and sea. He was 63 years old.
Survivors include his faithful wife and best friend, Doris Jean Stovall; sons, Gaylon Daryl Stovall, Clayton Desha Stovall, R W McCall, R A McCall, D E McCall, Christopher J Williams and Daniel F Sullivan; daughter, Marie J Whitfield; sister, Diane Stovall Ake, wife of Jerold Ake. He was preceded in death by mother, Mrs. J A Ansley and father, Mr. F D Stovall. He will be missed by numerous other relatives and friends, too many to name.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Greg Rhinehart officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted at the service by Parker Masonic Lodge #142. Parker Lodge will open one hour prior to service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 – 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Shaddai Temple Crippled Children's Fund Transportation Unit at 1101 W 19th St., Panama City, Florida 32405.
