Gabriele Susanna Graeter, nee Przewosny, who was born April 23, 1944 in Beuthen Upper Silesia, then Germany and now Poland, passed away on January 9, 2025 at Vitas Hospice Panama City in the early morning hours after severe illness.
Her parents Ladislaus Przewosny and Lotte Metzner preceded her in death.
She is survived by husband Peter Graeter, son Prof Dr Thomas Graeter and grandchildren Laura and Philipp Graetert living in Loewenstein, Germany
Gabriele visited school in Siegburg, Germany, till 7th grade . The family sponsored by Campbell Ave Church of Phoenix, Az, immigrated 1956 to the USA, where she attended Phoenix High and further 2 years of College with an Associate degree
Gaby travelled to Cologne in 1963 and met Peter Graeter there and got married on January 17,1964. Son Thomas was born in March of 1965
Gabriele worked in Cologne first for the Libby Food Company and then later for the South African Embassy
Later she enrolled in the University of Vechta and received a Master's degree in Mathematics and English and went on to teach at Emden and Ahlhorn, Germany 12th grade High school
She became an exchange teacher in El Paso, TX 1988 and taught newly immigrated children from Mexico at Escondrias High school for a year
Then she moved again to the US after husband Peter's retirement to join up with her sister Helga and husband Alton Arrington who sponsored her.
At first Gaby travelled for 2 years in our motorhome as "fulltimer" and crossed several times from Texas to Alaska and across Canada missing only but 3 National Parks. It was a great time of adventure , fun and happiness
She settled then permanently in Panama City Beach and got interested in depression glass collecting, of which she mostly enjoyed the hunt and getting a Miss America Collection complete
Then came the time of boating and enjoying the beach and the beautiful Gulf waters
In 2001 she became a US citizen and was very proud about it
Gaby was holding an Extra Class Amateur radio license and was a member of the local Amateur radio Club W4RYZ where she took exams for the FCC and was also an Ares member. Her callsign was AJ4BV and she met many other hams in Europe and at our home who came visiting her, attracted by her beautiful radio voice
Then she took a Master Gardener course at UF and enjoyed mostly the interaction with other people seeking advice about plants and she had wonderful friends there
In 2001 she was diagnosed with breast cancer stage 4 but was able to defeat it and recover completely withe help of Chemo and radiation.
The disease unfortunately returned early 2024 and finally led to her passing away, she was fighting it to the last minute but was too weak to get the chemo
She was married just 8 days shy of 61 years on Jan 9th 2025
She was a highly intelligent and caring person, she completed all her school ahead a year of regular times
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.
