Obituary

Fred A. Shoemaker, 93, of Panama City, Florida, passed away February 22, 2017 in a local hospital.  He was born August 21, 1923 in Heflin, Alabama to John Amos and Dora Shoemaker.  He served in the United States Navy during World War II.  He had been a resident of Panama City since 1946 moving here from Heflin, Alabama.  He was retired from International Paper Company, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club.  He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Panama City Antiques and Classic Car Club, Flywheel Engine Club, Gold Wing Road Riders and the Sunshine Riders with which he completed the Iron Butt Run.  He enjoyed and had a special talent for restoring old cars and his hobbies included making tools for family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ruby Smith Jones, Leverne Shealy and Wayne Shoemaker.  He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Shoemaker; siblings, Floyd Shoemaker, Helen Adams, Robert Shoemaker (Shirley), Kenneth Shoemaker and Hughlett Shoemaker (Marsha); and numerous nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Parkway Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ric Conner officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a donation to Parkway Presbyterian Church, 505 South Tyndall Parkway, Panama City, Florida 32404 or your favorite charity in memory of Fred Shoemaker.
