FLYNN COLLINS SKIPPER
Flynn Collins Skipper, age 88, went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2013.
He was born in La Pine, Alabama on November 28, 1924 to Annie and Charlie Skipper. Flynn graduated from Highland Home High School and served in the army during World War II. On October 11, 1947 he married Della Ruth Ivey. Over the years he worked on his associate's degree at Gulf Coast Community College. A shy public speaker, he proudly completed the Dale Carnegie Course in 1967.
He began his career as a welder, but in 1962 he moved to Panama City where he worked as the building inspector until he retired in 1985. In retirement he loved to grill, travel (or "ramble," as he loved to call it), and spend time with his two granddaughters.
Most recently he was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Panama City, but for years he was a deacon at Central Baptist Church and a board member at Panama City Christian School.
He is survived by his wife, Della Ruth Skipper, along with his only daughter, Pam Anderson, and her husband David. He leaves behind two granddaughters, Maggy Keet and her husband Andy; and Sharon Damelio and her husband Anthony. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Dorothy Riddebarger and three nieces: Patricia Gerosolina and her husband Tom, Gwen Sadler, Ann Pigott, and nephew, Randy Skipper.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 12 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Ellison officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service. He will be buried at Oakland Cemetery with a reception immediately following at Mathison Retirement Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Flynn's memory can be made to First Baptist Church's Building Fund, P.O. Box 1200, Panama City, FL 32402 in memory of Flynn Skipper.
