Floyd Sheffield, 89, of Panama City, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. He was born on June 4, 1925 in Bonifay, Florida. He grew up in Vernon and had been a lifelong resident of the area. He served in the United States Army, Army Air Corp and Air Force where he retired in 1971 at the rank of Master Sergeant after 26 years of service to his country. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Bay County School Board Maintenance Department for 15 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parker, where he served as an usher. Two of his favorite pastimes were fishing and reading. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Frank Sheffield, Fred Sheffield, John Henry Sheffield, Ila Keough and Corbin Sheffield; and niece, Margaret. He is survived by his wife, Mary F. Owens Sheffield; four children, Carlotta Gilbert (Jim), Dennis Sheffield (Laurelyn), Joy Harris (Jack), Patrick Sheffield (Carolyn); grandchildren, Jake Gilbert (Emily), Jordan Johnell (Michael), DeLyn McBride (Jonathan), Denny Sheffield (Shannon), Dallas Sheffield, Jackson Harris, Casey Sheffield (Kristin), Alex Sheffield (Sierra), Zachary Sheffield, Hannah Sheffield; great grandchildren, Jack and Grant Gilbert, Katelyn and Dawson McBride, Samantha, Abigail and Joshua Sheffield; sister, Gladys Wise; nieces and nephews, Kathy, Glenn, Brenda, Bobbie, Beverly, Trammell, Sandy and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 – 11 a.m. prior to the service. Those desiring may make memorial donations to your favorite charity or church in memory of Floyd Sheffield. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.
