EVELYN HICKMAN STEWART

Evelyn Hickman Stewart of Lynn Haven, FL, passed on to be with the Lord, on Friday, June 13, 2008. She was surrounded by her family, who loved her, as she was ushered into heaven.
Evelyn was born in Cerro Gordo, IL on May 12, 1909. She lived in Decatur, IL, and then moved to Tucson, AZ, where she and her husband lived during retirement. After 52 years of marriage and the passing of her husband, who was her childhood sweetheart, she moved to Panama City where she had been a resident for the past 18 years.
She was a devout Christian and was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Royal Neighbors of America. She was a homemaker, except during WWII when she worked in a defense plant. She was an avid bingo player and loved to play cards with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling extensively and was a published poet. She was a breast cancer survivor at the age of 89. Evelyn had just celebrated her 99th birthday on May 12, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wayne Stewart, and her great grandchild Nicole Lenora Jones. She leaves behind her only daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Rose Jones, wife of Robert C. Jones of Lynn Haven. In addition to her three grandchildren, Jeffrey Wayne Jones, Janilyn Renea Fooshee, and Jenea Elizabeth Riccio, she is survived by seven great grandchildren, Joshua, Julia, Nicholas and Jordan Jones, Karilyn McVay, and Michael and Joseph Riccio. Evelyn lived to see the fifth generation of great great grandchildren, Aurora and Jonathan Jones.
A private service with immediate family attending will be held at Wilson Funeral Home. She will be buried alongside her husband in Tucson, AZ, at Adair Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Forest Park United Methodist Church, 1401 W 23rd Street, Panama City, FL 32405 and/or the American Cancer Society.
