Obituary

Evelyn Antoinette Gajdomowitz Check, 94, loving and beloved mother and mother-in-law, passed away in peace and went to be with her Lord on April 28th, 2016. The youngest of eight children, she was born on January 9th, 1922, in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. She graduated high school, survived the Great Depression and endured the absence of her husband Peter, while he served in WWII. As a dedicated housewife, she raised three children: Carole, Peter, and Deborah, who were the joys of her life. She spent most of her life in South Amboy, NJ, but moved to Palm Harbor, Florida when her husband retired, where she enjoyed her retired life-style and made many friends. After her husband's death, she moved to Panama City, Fl to be near her daughter, Carole. Evelyn had a beautiful and strong singing voice; she was known for her hearty renditions of "New York, New York" and "On a clear day....". She is remembered as a gracious, giving, loving mother, woman, and friend, as well as for her outgoing, friendly, vivacious spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter P. Check, Sr., in 2002 and by her son, Peter P. Check, Jr. in 2015. Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Carole Check Buhrow, husband Bruce and Deborah Check Lynch, husband Jim, by her grand-daughters Jennifer Check and Courtney Lynch, her step-grand-daughters, Barbara Lynch Keegan, her children Joseph and Kaleigh and Beverly Lynch Wimmer, her children, Patrick and Erin and by a multitude of friends, including the residents and staff of Glen Cove Nursing Home. Her ashes will be buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, in East Brunswick, NJ next to those of her husband.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in St. Dominic's Catholic Church, Panama City, Fl. Reception with family to follow immediately in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Dominic's Catholic Church 3308 E. 15th St. Panama City, Florida 32405.
