Obituary

Esther Ruth Grizzard Boggs, 91, of Lynn Haven, FL, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019 in Birmingham, AL. She was born on May 21, 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Ina Estell Medley Grizzard and Uri Green Grizzard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69 years, Harry Boggs, two sisters, Nellie Blackwell and Floried Talley, one brother, Max Grizzard, and son-in-law, Gov Webb.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Greg and Paulette Boggs, her daughter Gail Webb, granddaughter, Esther Rainey (Andy) and their children Will, Matt, and Elizabeth, granddaughter Marie Robinette (Rob) and their children, Robbie and Brenley, grandson John Smyth (Leigh Ann) and their children, Mary Katherine and Hunter, granddaughter Jennifer Watson (Tate) and her children, Gregory, Graysen, and Gabrielle Gladden, grandson Greg Smyth (Tiffany) and their children, Eleanor and Harriet, and granddaughter Carol Pippin (Cole) and their daughter, Jordan.

She lived in many different cities as a child, including Chicago, IL, Kansas City, MO, Miami, FL, Panama City, FL, then back to Atlanta, GA. She attended a different school every year and attended Girls High while living in Atlanta.

K.D. married Harry Boggs on July 7, 1945. They raised their family in Panama City and were active members of Panama City First United Methodist Church. She worked in the billing department at City Hall. She also worked at International Paper Company and formed a special group of women known as the "Paper Dolls". They have remained close for over fifty years.

After their children were grown, K.D. and Harry traveled the United States and abroad for Harry's work in paper mill construction. They lived in the Philippine Islands, Cali, Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Texas and South Carolina, as well as many other states on shorter assignments. But Panama City was always their home.

When they retired to Lynn Haven, FL in 1986 they joined the Lynn Haven United Methodist Church. She loved being a part of the United Methodist Women (Blue Circle) and serving as the Circle leader. She was the Coordinator of the UMW Reading Program for many years. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed her visits to the Lynn Haven Library.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and wit. She was loving, strong, and wise. She loved to play bridge, and to entertain family and friends for get-togethers and fish fries at their home and at Crystal Lake. She made friends in every city and country that they lived and kept those friendships through the years.

She was proud of her two children and raised them well. She loved her six grandchildren dearly and enjoyed spending time with her thirteen great-grandchildren.

The devastation of Hurricane Michael forced her from her home that she loved and prompted her to move to Birmingham, AL for these past nine months. She had hoped to return home to Lynn Haven.

A Celebration of Life service will be 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Doug Pennington and Dr. Jim Luther officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers are her five great-grandsons and her "son" Pat Revell. Memorial donations may be made to Lynn Haven United Methodist Church, 4501 Transmitter Rd, Lynn Haven, FL 32404, in memory of Esther "K.D." Boggs.
