Elsie Andrews Johnson, 97, of Lynn Haven, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012.
She was born in Richmond, Indiana, on April 24, 1915, to Sandy Alexander and Lily Olympia Deiser Andrews. She grew up in Macon, GA, and graduated from Miller High School. Elsie attended Young Harris College and graduated from Wesleyan College, Macon, GA, in 1938, with an AB degree in social sciences. She was a talented teacher and lifelong learner, spending most of her teaching career in Jacksonville, FL, and San Bernardino, CA, until her retirement in 1977.
Elsie was active in various community affairs and organizations. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Earlewood Chapter, the American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Kappa, and the Daughters of America, Banks Dove Chapter. After moving to Lynn Haven in the 1980's, Elsie joined the Lynn Haven Lions Club becoming an active member and holding numerous offices.
Elsie loved music and dancing. She was an accomplished pianist and played for various churches and organizations throughout her life. She also taught piano for many years. She and her husband, Harry, were very active in square dancing and served as greeters for the International Bicentennial Square and Round Dancing Convention in 1976.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry K. Johnson; a sister, Helene Andrews Arrington (Chester); and a brother, Sandy W. Andrews (Betty). She is survived by her nieces and nephews, RoxAnna and Russell Sway of Atlanta, GA, Steven Arrington of Jacksonville, FL, Marti and Charles Willis, Marcia and Benny Forehand, Bill and Lisa Andrews, and James Andrews all of Lynn Haven, FL, and Janet and Peter Williams of Tallahassee, FL; numerous great nieces and great nephews; and her husband's children and their families, Lolita K. Trifiletti of Sparta, NJ, Christina V. Krespack of Boise, ID, and Robert H. Johnson (Connie) of Strassburg, CO.
The family would like to thank her caregivers at Sterling House and Covenant Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Dan Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
Asked to serve as pallbearers are her nephews, Russell Sway, Steven Arrington, Charles Willis, Benny Forehand, Bill Andrews, James Andrews, Peter Williams, Chris Forehand, and Tyler Andrews.
Honorary pallbearers are members of the Lynn Haven Lions Club.
