Elmer Glynn Wester, 94, of Panama City, was called home by his Lord and Savior on March 25, 2016.
Glynn was born in Climax, Georgia to Edward D. and Jewel N. Wester on November 14, 1921 and moved with his family to Bay County in 1931.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sonja Branton Wester, sisters, Willie W. Oglesby, Mary George and daughter, Tanya Wester Deal (Scott) and step-grandchildren Justin Deal (Jessica & children, Lexie & Kallie), Holly Farmer (Preston & children, Brantley & Easton) and Brittany Carter (Jamie & children, Brody & Wyatt) He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews.
In the early 40s, Glynn worked for JA Jones Construction Co. in the building of liberty ships at Wainwright Shipyard. In 1945, he was inducted in the U.S. Army and completed Combat Infantry Basic Training at Camp Wheeler, Macon, GA. He served with the WWII occupation troops in Japan in the Quartermasters Grave Company. After his military service, he was employed in civil service at Tyndall AFB for 38 years, retiring in 1988.
Glynn was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church joining in 1954 where he served as a deacon, song leader, clerk and teacher.
His favorite pastime was fishing. Glynn loved to be on the water with family and friends every chance he could get. He also enjoyed all types of gardening and was particularly proud of his rose garden.
Funeral services will be held at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00am on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 with Rev. Jim Hankins officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9am. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church Missions Fund or a charity of your choice, in memory of Glynn Wester.
