ELMER "JOE" HAYES
Elmer "Joe" Hayes, 89, passed away at home with his family at his side, January 18, 2011, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Joe spent 24 years in the US Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1966. Shortly thereafter he was employed at Tyndall AFB and was the Recreation Director for 18 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Hayes; a son, Harold Joe Hayes and wife Sharon of Chicago, IL; a daughter, Linda Geiger and her husband, Clark Geiger of Reston, VA and Panama City; two grand-daughters, Kaitlin Hayes and Maggie Hayes of Chicago, IL; and three grandsons, Kevin Geiger of Greenville, NC, Michael Geiger and wife Margie of Leesburg, VA, and, Eric Geiger, a student at Florida State University, Tallahassee. He is also survived by his sister, Lorene Faraci, of Orchard Park, NY. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Joe's life with a visitation at Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan 22, from 3-5pm.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donating to Florida Baptist Children's Home, 1015 Sikes Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33815 or Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Joe Hayes.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Hurst and staff at the Gulf Coast Cancer Center, Omni Home Health Care, and Covenant Hospice of Panama City for their loving care.
