Elma Deane Lisenby Newsom, of Panama City, went to her heavenly home, August 29, 2021. Deane was born in Hartford, AL on November 2, 1938, to Esther Banks Lisenby Kennedy and D.B. Lisenby. Although Deane was born in Alabama, Bay County, Florida was her home. She was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother, and of the Assembly of God faith. From early childhood, Deane was an avid reader. One could find her immersed in a book at any given time. She loved a wide variety of books, from romance novels, fiction, biographies to history books. Deane enjoyed gardening and had a love of all flowers. During her healthier years, she and husband Joe, enjoyed fishing the rivers, lakes and bays of our area and loved a delicious fish fry.

Deane is survived by daughter Debra Powell (Andy), sons Jerry Newsom (Sharmon) and Leon Newsom (Paula). Also daughters Theresa and Venassa. She leaves behind grandchildren, Crystal, Jason, Morgan, Mariah, Ray, Telisha, James, Kaylynn, Joanna, Natasha and Quincy. She is survived by numerous great grandchildren, four great, great grandchildren and sisters, Martha Somnitz, Twyla Lindsay and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deane was predeceased by husband, Joe Newsom, sons Benny and Johnny Newsom, granddaughter, Sandra and great granddaughter, Emily. Also, her mother and step-father, Esther Banks and Martin Kennedy, father DB Lisenby, and sisters and brother, Shirley, Janette, Joyce, Delores and Ralph.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Liaqat Hyatt, his office and staff for many years of care as well as Dr. Palep Rao. Also thanks to Community Health & Rehabilitation Center nurses and staff, for Deane's care in her last days.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 9th, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Grave side services will be held Friday, September 10th at 10 am at Bayou George Cemetery with Pastor Greg Rhinehart officiating.
