Obituary

Edwin Lee "Petey" Peters Sr., 83, of Panama City, FL, died on Monday, August 15, 2016 in his home surrounded by his wife, three children and loving dog Mitchell. He was born April 5, 1933 in St. Andrews, Florida to Mitchell & Dorothy Peters.  He was a local pioneer in Spear-fishing which is featured in a book he co-authored with his fellow "Shooter Giggers". He excelled in baseball and lettered four years while in high school.  He declined a baseball scholarship to Florida State University to marry his high school sweetheart Sarah.  He had a great love for hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.  He married Sarah Pritchard on June 8, 1952 in Cottondale, Florida.  He attended St. Andrews Elementary School and Bay High School.  He began his career at Cooper Plumbing.  He then went to work as a pipefitter for Michigan Chemical and ended his career as Plant Manager for Reichold Chemical and Timber Energy. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and went on numerous mission trips. He enjoyed fish fry's with the "Shooter Giggers" and lunches with St. Andrews Elementary Alumni. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Louise Remington. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sarah; son, Edwin Lee "Pete" Peters Jr. (Mimi); two daughters, Pamela Selene Robertson, Tammie Jean Sullivan (Billy); 6 grandchildren, Krissy Robertson, Sarah Elizabeth Peters, Edwin "Lee" Peters III, Celeste Sullivan, Erin Sullivan, Sarah Grace Sullivan; sister, Teresa Lynd; five nieces Debbie Gessel, Joy Steinmuss, Judy Steinmuss, Sandy Oltz, Karen Pritchard; two nephews, Mike Bancroft and Doug Bancroft.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 19 in the First United Methodist Church of Panama City with Rev. Steve Rascoe officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 a.m. on Friday.  Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers are Billy Archer, Dennis Atchison, Doug Bancroft, Mike Bancroft, Robert Cogburn, Harold Conrad, Bert Gwaltney, Bobby Johnson, George Johnson, Jack Laird, Jimbo Martin, Johnny Nix, Bill Polhemus, Jerry Sowell and Bud Vause. Honorary pallbearers are members of the "Shooter Giggers" and the Ashbury Sunday School Class. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Building Fund at First United Methodist Church, 903 E. 4 th St., Panama City, FL 32401 in his memory. Special thanks to the loving and compassionate caregivers, Henrietta Barnes, Cynthia Darling, Marcia Fulton and Ogechi (Charles) Osiyi. "Follow me and I will make you Fishers of Men".
