Ed was born in Ozark, AL, on April 23, 1921, to Fred and Annie Heath Johnson. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1940 reaching the rank of first sergeant one year later. He married Jane E. Poston of Panama City, FL, in Vienna, Austria, on August 23, 1952. They adventured to Austria, Germany the Philippines, Japan and several assignments in the United States before retiring in 1966 at Tyndall Airforce Base as a Master Sergeant. After his 26 years of service in the Air Force he began his career as a realtor opening Johnson and McCallister Realtors, Inc., with Gerald McCallister. Ed and Jane enjoyed attending Air Force Reunions with other Air Force retirees from Tuln, Austria. As a member of the Greatest Generation, he was deeply patriotic and loved America. He was a charter member of Hadjai and Shaddai Shriners, transporting many pediatric burn patients to hospitals throughout the southeast. Ed was a long-time member of St. Andrews Baptist Church before entering Sims VA Nursing Home. He and Jane both volunteered at the church's benevolent outreach center. After studying the Bible and reading about the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8, Ed committed his life to Jesus and was baptized into Christ on his 95th birthday. His faith was a very important part of his life, and he often said, "The Lord has been good to me." Ed was well known for his sense of humor and bold personality which he maintained even at 103 years old. He was referred to as King Edward at Sims and often reminded everyone that "I'm in charge." He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
The family would like to thank Sims Nursing home for loving and taking care of Ed since December of 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Emerald Coast Hospice who lovingly guided us all through this transition.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024, 1:00pm in the
