EDWARD EUGENE DORDON – CPO USN RETIRED, died on Sunday, August 2, 2020. He was born on December17, 1942 in Tripp Junction, AR to Otis and Dorothy Colter Dordon . He was one of 14 children.
He served in the US Navy for 23 years beginning in 1961 including a tour of duty in Vietnam (1967-68) with the Mobile Riverine Forces and spent a tour with the Seabees. He served on various ships and ports of call during his career. His final duty station was in Hawaii where his retirement ceremony was held on the USS Arizona Memorial in March 1983.
Upon leaving Hawaii he moved with his family to Panama City, FL where he was employed with the US Postal Service. Retiring in 2003 after 19 years of service.
He loved a challenge and after retirement he earned his pilot's license. He then built a small plane in his garage and spent numerous hours completing the project and eventually flew the plane. He loved motorcycles and for a while enjoyed riding with many of his Sunday School friends. He also enjoyed working in his yard taking pride in his vegetable and flower garden. When his health permitted he traveled making several trips to Europe and within the United States.
He met his wife Linda while stationed in Key West, FL. They married in 1975.
Ed is survived by his Wife of 44 years Linda and his Son Shawn plus 2 Granddaughters and 4 Great Granddaughters. Siblings Delton, Nicky, Jeffery, Karen, Kelvin and Mary Nevada. His extended family included 4 Stepchildren, James Taylor, Chuck Taylor, Duane Taylor and Christine Strickland. 7 Step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Mary Ann along with 7 siblings. His ½ brother O.D., Barbara, Peggy, Kenneth, Debra, Donnie and Jerry Dean.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2020 at 9 am in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 8-9 am prior to the service. Interment will be held in the Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL at 2 pm on Monday.
